Summary: Jun was an interior designer for Remarkable Design Graphic Company, his life had been simple until he met Ohno – a perfectionist client who was very difficult to deal with. On the other hand, Jun eventually found out that Ohno was also a loving dad to his only son…
“You're back.” Okada greeted him once he entered their office. Ohno just gave him a small smile, not in the mood for a chitchat. His head was pounding because he just left the construction site and the heat outside was not something he could handle easily.
“So, how was your date with the gorgeous Matsumoto Jun?” Okada continued teasingly. He usually would answer his question but not now. He just glared at his partner, wishing for once the man would shut up.
“1, it wasn’t a date. 2, the design he made was good but not functional that I asked him to re-do in 2 weeks, which led to number 3, he hates me, he despises me and I swear he would kill me whenever he can.” Or I kill him if he ever laid a hand on my son, Ohno added the sentence in his heart. No matter how wrong it looked like, he couldn't embarrassing the man just like that.
“Are you sure they’re the best interior designer out there? Cause I can’t see it now. You see, his design is good, pretty, but useless. Who would want to put woven wiremesh in an elevator? It will gain dust faster and people hair can actually pulled on them.” Ohno opened the file he had over Okada’s desk, pointing at pictures that had bothered him since the first time he saw it.
“And here, you see ‘S’ shaped seaters? Why would he put it in the middle of the lobby? It’s out of place, the material is insync with their surrounding and it takes a lot of space. People will walk through the area, and these gigantic useless things will block their movement.” He huffed himself on the chair, facing his co-founder and honestly thinking of options they had as the client request both firm to work together.
“Have you talked to Matsumoto-san about this? With this kind explanation and not just being a grumpy old man?” Okada raised his brow, looking at him directly. It was sometimes amazing how his partner could see through him, could see how he just shoved the pictures back to Matsumoto and just ordered him to redo without further explanation. He loosened his ties, suddenly tenth fold tired than what he already felt. “Well…”
“Well, Sakurai just called me, saying he is currently thinking of taking Matsumoto out of the project, since it is clearly, you two can’t work together. Right?” Okada softly said the words, while looking at the pictures that was on his desk. Ohno just stared at the man, mouth hanging open wide.
“They will take Matsumoto out from the project? Why? Surely I didn’t agree with all his idea, but that doesn’t mean the guy is really clueless. His idea is innovative, he just need to be pointed on the utility side other than just appearance.” and he couldn’t keep an eye on him if he was to be taken out of the project. Heck, he didn’t even know what would happen between Matsumoto and his son if he couldn’t put a tab on the man. Ohno stared in disbelieved, expecting explanation from his partner.
“Why? Because someone actually being a jerk who is not showing the flaw but just plainly instructed him to re-do.” Okada looked up, put his head on both hand and innocently annoyingly smiled at him.
Ohno just sat there quietly, playing with his fingers, it was not because he didn’t want to say what he had in mind clearly, but he just couldn’t say it. He knew he had difficulties in getting what he had his mind across to people, that’s why he had Okada with him. But he never thought someone would actually offended even quitting the project because of his action.
“We better go home, wanna stop over? Aoi made kare tonight.” Okada put the pictures aside and started cleaning up after himself. Kare sounded tempting for his empty stomach, but then he remembered the phone call earlier, he must talk to his son about what happened at school that day.
“Nah, I better get home, need to talk to Kazu about something,” about everything, including the fact there was Matsumoto’s picture on his phone. Ohno added in his mind, stood up himself before took his bag with him.
“Talk to Kazu or talk with Kazu? Hope you’re not forgetting your son is actually teenager now, don’t know what you had in mind, but hear him first okay.” Okada locked their office and again Ohno felt relieved he had this man as his best friend.
“Yeah, see you tomorrow.” Ohno walked the opposite way, put his hand in his pocket, opted if he better walked or getting on the train but finally took the first option, he needed to think and hoped the cold air of the night could clear his mind.
<°)))>< ♡ ><(((°>
The house was dark when Ohno arrived, he took off his shoes quietly, seeing his son’s shoes thrown messily at the genkan. Shaking his head slowly, he re-arranged their shoes neatly, thought on how he must remind his son, again. That boy is old enough to take care of himself. Old enough to have a girlfriend, or boyfriend? A small voice sneaked into his head and he shook it quickly, no, Kazu is not old enough for that.
Got himself a glass of water, he noticed a takeaway box of the hamburger store he visited with Matsumoto in the dust bin, was that means his boy met up with that guy again? Feeling himself got angry, he hurriedly came to his son’s room, saw the boy curled up on his bed with only his hair was sticking out under the cover. The light was off, making the room completely dark that made Onho suspicious more, Kazu always sleeps with bed lamp on. He turned the lamp and pulled the cover down from Kazu’s head, he did it slowly as to not waking him up. But his breath caught in his throat as he saw a big bluish bruise adoring his son’s eyes, and not just that, he noticed some scratches on the boy’s wrist also.
“Kazu, kazu, wake up, what is this about?? Who did this to you?” Ohno furiously shook his boy awake, he had only one name in his head, but boy, he hoped he was wrong. Matsumoto didn’t look like someone who hurt a boy, but he didn’t look like someone who would date a boy either.
His son just stirred a bit, mumbling he didn’twant to wake up. Ohno shook him harder this time, watching the boy winced in pain when he grabbed his arm rather stronger. He rolled up the boy’s pajama, seeing another bruise on his upper arm. He was so angry that made him yelled. “Kazu! Wake up! Now!”
This time, it worked, Kazu stirred to wake immediately and blinked to adjust with the warm light from the bedside lamp. But before Ohno could ask anything, his son had jerked away from him, looked at him with anger back. “What the… Dad! What are you doing here?! Get out!”
Ohno didn’t expect his son would react like that, and that triggered his anger more. He was worry about the boy, seeing him injured and the boy himself was shoving him out of the room.
“Now you listen to me young man! This is still my house and you haven’t answer me. What is wrong with you?! How come you have all these bruises? Did you get into a fight?”
“Wow! Great! Now you get to concern about me? Really? Now?! Get out Dad!” Kazu was not answering him, instead he shoved him out of the bed, making Ohno almost fell out his butt. The older from two stared in disbelief at the boy’s reaction.
"No! Not until you answer me! Did you or did you not get into a fight?” Ohno asked again, stood still with his hand crossed over his chest, being stubborn just like his son did. Until a voice crossed his mind. “Or did someone hit you?”
“Dad! Stop! We both know you’re not really care for me, so stop this and get out.” Kazu launched himself out of the bed and pushed him out of the door quickly and before he could really notice what had happened, he was stood outside of the door with Kazu spoke to him behind the locked door, threatening him. “If you ever snooping into my room again, I will leave this house.”
Ohno stared blankly at the closed door, his hand unconsciously stroked the cold wood of it. He wondered how could his own son thought he didn’t concern for him and moreover, didn’t care for him when all that he had done was for him. He sometimes wished his boy was still the 5 year old boy that ran after him every time he picked him up from the kindergarten, told him a non-stop story about his days, his friends, and basically everything. He didn’t know what he did wrong along the way. Along the jiggling time between his son and his new built company until now the boy grew up too teenager and his company had more projects which mean more money for him to spoil his son. The son that had just shoved him out of his room, that probably curled on his bed, hid his bruises which Ohno didn’t even got the story behind that, yeah, that son for a father like him.
<°)))>< ♡ ><(((°>
It had been a week after that, the Ohnos were not even talking to each other. Every time his father wanted to say something, the son would just run away to his room. Ohno gave up when Kazu flew away on Sunday, saying he had an appointment with his friend and took his camera with him. Ohno was so tempted to follow him, which he really did, but then his son caught him at the station and the boy angrily stomped his feet, getting back to their house. Not even said a word to him.
The boy locked himself in his room, getting out only when he needed the bathroom, or ate some instant ramen. He would leave for school without breakfast, still with no words to his father and Ohno didn’t know how to start either. He just let the boy do as he pleased.
He sighed deeply as he opened the door of Remarkable Interior design office. Today, he must again meet Matsumoto, they needed to get a deal on the material with suppliers, and re-setting their time table as Matsumoto needed to re-revised the drawings, which another reason why he really didn’t look forward for this meeting.
“Good, you’re here. This is the revision you asked and if you would want to revise this, kindly talk it over with Sakurai, he will ask someone to assist you.” Matsumoto shoved him the blueprint even before he could sit on one of the chairs. His head pounded since last night and the last thing he needed to completely ruin his day was Matsumoto bitchy action just now.
“If you’re really capable, there will be no revision needed from the start.” He barked back and that was enough to get Matsumoto shockingly looking at him. Surely, this must be the first time someone ever returned his words like he did. Well, that was the payment for hitting Kazu, he thought quietly.
“Now, boys, please, we can settle this in more civilized way I guess.” Okada pulled him to sit, glared at him to hold all his words. Ohno decided to shut his mouth and just sat silently beside his partner. One by one their supplier came and presenting the material they would use for this project. Ohno was in the middle of deciding the parakeet floor they would use for cafe at the mezzanine when his mobile rang loudly.
A glance to his phone, he could see Kazu’s school that called him. Clicked his tongue in annoyance, he picked up his phone, thinking there must be something his boy did again that made the school had to call him directly. He didn’t try to cover his annoyance when answering the phone. But there was silence even after several times he said “Halo”.
“Ohno san? This is Nagase, Kazunari’s home teacher,” of course Ohno had known the guy, he had met him sometimes when Kazu did something, but this time, the tone was different, instead of suppressed anger that the teacher use, it was more of panicky and worrisome.
“Yes, Nagase-sensei, can I help you?” Ohno backed out little from his chair, tapping Okada’s shoulder to notify him he must take the phone, before he stood at the corner of the meeting room, fully aware Matsumoto’s eyes were following him.
“Ohno san, this is about Kazunari, we were having friendly match with other school, and Kazunari is the last batter,” this one, Ohno didn’t know, but again, he hadn’t talked to his son for a week.
“And there was an accident.” Ohno forgot anything he was supposed to be doing at that moment but just stood still, hearing the teacher continuing. “He was running to home base when another kid hit him and made him fall.”
“Ho...how… how was he? Where is he?” Ohno felt his heart race faster. His son got into accident? And he just know it now. Who could guarantee nothing happened to his son?
“Kazunari-kun has been taken to the hospital now, and…” Ohno forgot the rest of what the teacher was saying. He just blankly walked back to his chair, grabbed his belonging and ready to leave when Okada caught his arm.
“Hei, Satoshi-kun, what’s wrong? Who's calling? Why you look so pale?” Ohno stared at his partner, somehow remembered he was doing something, but he just needed to go to the hospital. He took a full minute and another call from Okada, calling his name, “Satoshi-kun?”
“My son, my son got an accident, sorry…” I have to go, Ohno was mean to continue with the words, but everything was so mess up in his head right now. It was Okada who decided for him. “Go! I’ll take care this.”
Ohno flagged the first taxi that came in front of him, he mentioned his destination before fidgeting on his seat. The trip itself was just 15 minutes, but it seemed like hours for Ohno. As soon as he saw the lobby of the hospital, he threw the fare cost and run inside. Asking his son’s name to a sour looking nurse behind the information desk.
“Ohno Kazunari? He just got here 5 minutes ago, in ER now. He bro…” Ohno didn’t hear the next words, but he ran to the ER, there was only one thing in his mind, he must see his son.
“Sir, please, no running in the hospital.” someone told him but he simply ignored, passing and dodging people in front of him until he got to the room with big ER words written on the door. He hastily came in, only to be greeted by someone that must be the residence doctor in the room.
“Sorry sir, no one can come in here.” the doctor tried to shove him but his eyes fixed on the bed at far end of the room.
“I’m Ohno Kazunari’s father. There he is, I need to know what is wrong with my son, please doctor.” This time, it was Ohno who grabbed the doctor’s arm, trying to get the man to understand, he needed to know if his son was alright. From what he could see at the moment, Kazunari eyes were closed, white bandage was circling his head, also his hand. The doctor followed his eyes then seemed to understand what he was saying, finally.
“Ah, please have a seat. Your son is quite all right, nothing bad happened, he injured his head and now unconscious because of it. He broke his left hand though.” the doctor continued.
“Is he really all right?” To Ohno, his son looked worse, he looked pale, small and the bandages seemed covering all his body.
“Yes, Ohno-san, he is quite all right, he was awake for a moment when his injury was taken care of and no sign of nausea, but to be sure, we’d better wait for his MRI result. Let me show you his arm scan,” the doctor lightened up the big lamp behind him and started his explanation, seemed like the arm’s shinbone broken into two but the doctor assured him, it would take a month until it recovered. Now Ohno could feel his heartbeat back to normal.
“You can sit by his bed if you want.” the doctor ushered him to his son’s bed which he done gladly.
<°)))>< ♡ ><(((°>
Ohno didn’t know what time it was when Kazu opened his eyes, the boy seemed to lost for a moment before he fixed his eye to him and just whispered, “Dad”.
“Hey, you okay?” Ohno almost slapped his own head hearing the stupid question. He didn’t understand why he seemed not be able to say right thing to his own son.
“So you do care now?” Kazu turned his head opposite way, trying his best not to look at him, Ohno thought.
“Do you still want to stay here or going home?” Ohno asked again when the silence had continued for the next 5 minutes. He sat there, looking at the back of Kazu’s head. His hand raised to ruffle the boy’s head but he put it down again, afraid his son would reject him.
“Home.” Kazu answered shortly and Ohno immediately brought the wheelchair a nurse had prepared earlier to the side of the bed. This time, he didn’t think, but just extending his arms, carried the boy until he was seated safely on the wheel chair. He knew Kazu complained when he carried him just now, but a part of his mind was actually happy that he could still carried his own son.
After the final words from the doctor, Ohno pushed the wheelchair away and finished all the administrative stuffs, also paid the hospital. He pushed the wheelchair again, passed by the lobby to get them taxi when he saw someone that look familiar. But he was then who was surprised.
“Matsumoto san?” Kazu called the man and the guy turned to see them together. This time, Ohno stood beside his son’s chair, trying to shield him from the guy.
“Kazu-kun? You’re injured? Wait, is this mean he is your father?” Matsumoto said as he approached them and stared at them in disbelief. Ohno really didn’t know what that guy had in his head, but he knew he won’t let the older man approaching his son again. Enough is enough and it’s time to make sure the man understand it.
“Yes, Kazu-kun is my son. And I will appreciate it so much if you could get away from him. Go find yourself a girlfriend on your own age, or boyfriend I don’t really care. Someone your age must know how to depend themselves. You don’t have to follow him around anymore, Kazu is too young for you.” Ohno stood in front of the wheelchair, daring the man to answer him.
“Excuse me? I don’t think I know what you mean Ohno san.” Matsumoto looked so confused. He showed a document folder on his hand before continuing, “I’m here just to get your signature for this supplier contract, Okada-san told me where you are.”
“Matsumoto-san, please, I know your relationship with Kazu and as I said, Kazu is too young for you or if you really do like children, go to someone else’s kids, not mine.” Ohno still stood tall.
“Wait, my relationship with Kazu-kun? What do you mean?” another confusion written on the handsome man’s face.
“I know you two are dating.” Ohno stated the fact, but he didn’t expect the next reaction from both the man in front of him and his own son behind him, as both of them screaming, “WHHAAATT??!”

Date: 2017-09-24 08:10 am (UTC)I feel so sorry for Jun for having to deal with all these insults and accusations from Ohno. And for Kazu, because he feels like his father doesn't even care. Ohno just yelled at him instead of listening firts, like Okada adviced.
I can't believe how Ohno acts - Someone really needs to hit him hard for once! He is acting like such a jerk (all this would have not been necessary if he asked Jun about everything directly) I guess now he finally understands that Jun and Kazu are not dating (and he even thinks Jun hit Kazu? *smh*) and that the problem is rather he himself not someone else.
He needs to learn how to communicate with others - he is really bad with that. He needs someone who helps him with his communication skills (in private and for work, because he is horrible at both *lol*)
Loved this, thanks for the update! Can't wait to see how Jun and Ohno are actually going to get closer.

Date: 2017-09-24 11:28 am (UTC)He mustn't hesitate. If he doesn't get the courage to take the first step in talking to him, they won't go anywhere as father and son. How sad... Of course he has his own struggles, but he should help himself and his son as well. Well, it's annoying that he suspected Jun to be doing weird things with his son and even accusing him of hitting Kazu when he never even tried talking to his son! Tsk, I wonder how he's going to react now that it's clear to him that nothing's going on between Jun and Kazu. I hope Kazu won't compare him to Jun (e.g. stuff like Jun cares for him unlike his own father) and rub it onto his face that he's sort of a useless father. Ohno will be so hurt if Kazu says that. Thanks for the update beautiful ladies! <3

Date: 2017-09-24 08:35 pm (UTC)Ohno really needs to stop being so abrupt and rude. Even after Okada's wise advice (which he obviously couldn't successfully follow) he still let his emotions run away with him.
Hopefully now they will be able to sort this whole mess out.
